Ep. 06-02: Dawn of the Dead (2004)

Ana is unpleasantly surprised when her husband is brutally attacked by her zombified neighbor. Ana flees and meets a police officer named Kenneth, along with more survivors who decide that their best chances of survival would be found in the deserted Crossroads Shopping Mall. When other trapped survivors need help and supplies begin running low, the group decides they cannot stay put forever at the Shopping Mall and devise a plan to escape.

Dawn of the Dead (2004) has big shoes to fill, improving upon the original Dawn of the Dead (1978), a major classic in the horror oeuvre. Unfortunately, cameos from the original cast and adding more characters fighting fast zombies is not enough. Join us as we discuss why this movie is flawed, including its director Zack Snyder. Listen, as Johnny Has the Keys runs very fast to a shopping mall sanctuary, fighting an impossibly large and undefeatable mass of the undead.

Ep. 03-26: Dawn of the Dead (1978)

As the zombie threat (from Night of the Living Dead) grows, people realize things will never be the same and are doing what it takes to survive. In Philadelphia, television-station employees Stephen (David Emge) and his girlfriend, Francine (Gaylen Ross), escape in the traffic helicopter, accompanied by two renegade SWAT members, Roger (Scott Reiniger) and Peter (Ken Foree). The group retreats to the haven of an enclosed shopping center, attempting to keep the luxuries of their former life when, in reality, they may be humanity’s last stand.

Episode 0326 DAWN OF THE DEAD

When there’s no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth. These are Peter’s (Ken Foree) haunting words that perfectly encapsulate the situation unleashed in this monumentally influential horror movie. Join us as we discuss the origins of this sequel, its production, and its lasting effect on cinema and television. Listen, as Johnny Has the Keys goes on the lam, escapes the dead, and defends a home of luxurious refuge… perfect it seems, but really nothing more than a massive tomb.
