Doctor Sleep is a beautifully shot horror film that lives up to all of its source material—namely the King novel, and the Kubrick movie. Join us as we discuss the controversial development of this project with director Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, … Bly Manor), Stephen King, and Stanley Kubrick’s estate. Listen as Johnny Has the Keys returns to the evil spirits that dwell in the Overlook Hotel and discover how they serve a purpose in the adult Dan Torrence’s quest to save a child.

Ep. 02-11: The Shining (1980)

Episode 2-11 THE SHINING

Jack Torrence and his wife and son, Wendy and Danny, are isolated caretakers of the Overlook Hotel in the snowy Colorado mountains. Danny has the gift of second sight and sees long before his parents that the Overlook has had a violent past and is haunted by many ghosts. Soon, Jack falls victim to possession of these restless spirits and begins a descent into madness and murder.

The Shining, based on the novel by Stephen King and directed by Stanley Kubrick, is a sacred paradigm in the hallowed halls of horror. It is also a very controversial film. King has gone on record many times, dismissing it for its casting and script. The film holds its own though, with captivating cinematography and renowned performances. Join us as we discuss this classic film and the many key elements that lift it above standard genre fare. Listen, as Johnny Has the Keys takes you to the wintry mountains of Colorado, where a mammoth hotel is brimming with vengeful spirits, and where a murderous father now stalks its empty halls.
