In this superior adaptation of Stephen King’s classic first horror novel, withdrawn and sensitive teen Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) faces taunting from classmates at school and abuse from her fanatically pious mother (Piper Laurie). Strange occurrences happen around Carrie, and she suspects she has supernatural powers. Invited to the prom by the empathetic Tommy Ross (William Katt), Carrie tries to let her guard down, but with a practical joke gone awry, things eventually take a dark and violent turn.
Happy Holidays and welcome to the first of three classic Stephen King movies in a row! Carrie (1976) is not only based on the first King novel ever published, but it is the first adaption of any of his work. Join us as we discuss the classic cast, Brian DePalma’s superb Hitchcockian directing, and the King-agreed summation that this film is actually better than the novel. Listen as Johnny Has the Keys journeys back to our nation’s bicentennial to attend an ill-fated prom where murderous vengeance is unleashed from the most unlikely of suspects.
