Ep. 02-02: Blade Runner (1982) & Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

Episode 02-02 “BLADE RUNNER”

It is the year 2019. Retired Blade Runner, Rick Deckard, is recruited to hunt down four Nexus-6 model replicants that have escaped the labor camps of the off-world colonies and returned to Earth in search of their maker, Dr. Eldon Tyrell. When meeting with Tyrell, Deckard is introduced to and becomes enamored with the beautiful Rachel, also a replicant. As Deckard carries out his orders to retire the skin-jobs, he must come to terms with what it means to be human.

Blade Runner is one of those monumental Science fiction films that tops most lists. Based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick, it ponders the long-established sci-fi trope: What makes us human? Join David and Tim as they discuss how Blade Runner, a troubled production and box-office flop, ascended past its failed release and is now lauded as a landmark film. Listen… as Johnny Has the Keys takes you to a bleak and over-populated Los Angeles where we contemplate the morality of artificial intelligence and its place among humans.
